The
company's State Forest Railroads in Lillafüred und Pálháza
are very important in connection with tourism. The trains made at the
turn of the century are carrying tens of thousands of nature-lover holidaymakers
to the forests of the Bükk- and Zemplén- Mountains.
The Forest Directorate of Hegyköz operates the Pálháza
State Forest Railroad starting from the village of Pálháza
through the well-attended valley of Kemencepatak to the end-station
Rostalló in the most beautiful parts of the Zemplén Zone
of Protection. There are three train-pairs in operation from April to
October. On demand conditional trains can be ordered, the capacity of
the train is 200 persons.
The Lillafüred State Forest Railroad has two lines. The main line
between the end station in the Dorottya street and Garadna is 14 kilometres
long. The branch line Parasznya from the branch-off point Papírgyár
through Mahóca to the station Taksalápa is 16 kilometres
long.
In both lines several show places as well as the renewed steam-locomotive
pulling the old train make the excursion unforgettable.
